I am a second year Software Engineering student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, graduating in 2017. I have worked with C#, Java, C++, MySQL, Python, HTML, Android, Unity, JavaScript, and PHP.
This past summer, I had the opportunity to intern at The Philadelphia Game Lab as a Software Developer. I led development of an Android mobile application--a customizable, location-based, storytelling tool. For this project, I learned the complexities of Android mobile development, gained experience utilizing Google’s location-based APIs, and experimented with web to server to mobile interactions.
Prior to starting at Drexel, I became an active member of Philly Game Forge, a co-working space run by local developers. Through the Game Forge, I participated in a number of IGDA game jams--winning the “WTF Award” two years in a row.
From 2012 to 2013, I worked as Operations Assistant for the independent company USB Typewriter. From 2010 to 2012, I worked as Operations Manager for a local ceramics supply company, The Ceramic Shop. From 2008 to 2010, I worked as a digital archivist for the Boston branch of The Internet Archive (archive.org).
In 2008, I began teaching myself programming--working mostly in C# and Java. Before this I was a practicing artist, working mostly in 2D--I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2008. I started programming, initially, with the goal of making interactive artwork. I found that both programming and art making necessitate creative and adaptive problem solving. Neither leads to one singular correct answer. The process of writing code, and the real-world problem-solving of development, ultimately, won my focus.
So far my experiences at Drexel, and the development opportunities I have had outside of school, have been incredibly rewarding. I have learned a great deal, and am eager to continue broadening my education by taking on new and diverse challenges.
I grew up in Portland, Oregon. I have lived in Oakland, California, and Boston, Massachusetts. I currently reside in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attend the College of Computing and Informatics at Drexel University.
